Ice Damage

Some of you may be wondering how the course and club held up with the passing of the most recent storm that came through. We did have some ice damage throughout the club but it was not nearly as severe as we saw in the winter of 2009. A few trees did come down on the roadsides. Below is a picture of a big oak that came down across club drive, not far from the entrance.
No trees came down on the course but there are quite a few limbs. We had 1.8 inches of precipitation with the passing of this storm. The course was too wet to work on today but I did drive around to look for any major damage. When it dries enough we will get to work cleaning up and assess any trees that may need additional work as a result of this storm. It's easy to spot what is on the ground but we must continually look for broken limbs that may still be in the tree which could be a hazard in the future. In the mean time, you can see we have plenty to clean up!

Picture Problems Resolved

I'm sorry for the long delay but I think I'm finally up and running again. I can finally post pictures again so here we go. As I mentioned in my last post, the driving range tee has been completed and sodded.

This is the area behind #17 green. It was getting grown up again with little trees that would eventually block our beautiful view so we went down the hill a bit and cleared what we could.

Thanks again for your patience while I got these problems resolved. I'll keep you all updated as we work on some winter projects and get ready for another great season at the Gap!

Happy New Year!

I know it's been over a month since I posted and I apologize! I want to wish everybody a Happy New Year! I'm currently having problems posting photos so I'm sorry I can't attach any right now.

The Spence crew finished up their work in early December. Since my last posting, they finished the drainage work on #7 and finished rebuilding the driving range tee. I hope you all will be pleased with the work on the driving range tee. While I don't have the exact numbers right now, it looks to me like the teeing size has doubled! This should certainly help in the summer to provide for ample practice space. We also decided to sod the tee so that it would be ready to go in early May.

Since we returned from the holiday break we have begun working on our winter projects. The first thing we tackled was to clear out behind 17 green. Some of the trees were beginning to grow up and start blocking the view, so we went down the hill as far as we could go. I can assure you this is no easy task!

Lastly if anybody is curious, we had 7 inches of snow on Friday. That is on top of the 6 inches of rain we received throughout the week. Needless to say, we have plenty of moisture for now!

Hopefully I can get the picture problem resolved sooner than later!

More Drainage!

The Spence crew is currently working on adding some more drainage on #7. The drainage that they installed last year is working correctly. The problem is that some of the springs moved this summer which caused a few more wet spots. They are now working on putting in drainage to connect the areas together so we have a bigger drainage field, and to hopefully also get all of the springs that are on the low side of the hole.
